In a world dominated by social media notifications and constant emails...
There is something calming about waiting for the mail. Snail mail isn’t the same as other instant distractions. It’s a step toward mindfulness and genuine connection.
Here are five reasons why so many people still enjoy snail mail clubs:
1. That "Yay, Not a Bill!" Feeling
Let’s be real: most mailboxes are full of bills, bank statements and pizza coupons. But finding a real envelope tucked in there? That reminds you there’s a whole world outside your own bubble.
2. Unplugging (For Real)
Reading or writing a letter is different than using email. There’s no backspace button on a piece of paper, so the writer has to actually slow down and think about what to say. It’s the perfect excuse to:
- Actually focus on your thoughts.
- Be intentional with your words.
- Ditch the screen for a few minutes of peace and quiet.
- Build human connections.
3. Keepsakes You Can Actually Keep
Emails are easily deleted and forgotten. A physical letter is something you can toss in a shoebox and stumble upon ten years from now. It’s a tangible piece of your history and your friendships that won't disappear if a server crashes.
4. Goodbye "Likes," Hello Reality
Sending snail mail means you are not just reacting to a notification. You’re starting from scratch on a blank page. You may judge your handwriting if you’re not a calligraphy pro, but being okay with messy handwriting is a reminder that you don’t need to be perfect to be worth someone’s time. When you put your real, unedited self on paper, you’ll find people who appreciate the slow, honest connection just as much as you do.
5. Getting Your Craft On
Think of snail mail as a low-stakes creative outlet. From discovering pretty stamps, wax seals, and cool card designs to writing a note, you’re sending a creative experience. It’s basically "mail art," and it’s way more fun than typing. In fact, many artists have created their own monthly snail mail clubs. Every artist has their own style of art and unique offering you can sign up to receive regularly if you are interested in artist snail mail clubs.
Which Snail Mail Club is right for me?
There are many snail mail clubs out there, and I’ll be reviewing several artist-run clubs on my YouTube channel, so be sure to subscribe to catch those!
I also want to share a bit about my own snail mail club. As an artist, I send out monthly greeting cards to all my members. Each package features a personal letter from me addressed to you, a brand-new folded greeting card for you to send to someone else, and bonus paper goods.
Unlike many other clubs I’ve reviewed, my snail mail club is not a subscription. I don't want to encourage over-consumption or make it a hassle to cancel a recurring charge, so I’ve set it up as a one-time payment. You can choose to buy a membership for one, three, or six months upfront on my website. There are no automatic recurring fees for my mail club! If you want to continue to be a member of my snail mail club after your membership expires, you can manually sign up again.
